Under the new legislation, From September students attending schools in France will no longer be allowed to use smartphones or tablets as there are public health fears that people are becoming addicted and over-connected.

There had already been a ban in place preventing students from using phones during class times but the new legislation now covers free times such as between classes and during lunch.

American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten describes that smartphones are “an essential safety and security tool” and that students should be educated on how to properly use them and for them not to be banned.

In countries such as Norway, students are given a login to a secure filtered network that allows them to email their teachers and peers and collaborate together on projects and work.
